The BTEC Higher Nationals are designed to provide a specialist vocational programme, offering a strong, sector-related emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding.

The qualifications provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in their sector and their national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment.

A key progression path for the BTEC HNC and HND learners is to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree programme, depending on the match of the BTEC Higher National units to the degree programme in question.

The BTEC National Certificate in Engineering will train and educate you in the practical skills and theories needed to begin professional work in engineering, or progress in your chosen field. The qualification can also help you move on to further study.

The course is designed to be adaptable to your abilities and needs: it consists of six core units plus a choice of specialist units. The structure of the course allows you to focus on your interests, such as engineering design, computer aided drafting or electrical installation. Please note that the units studied may vary to meet local or learner needs.

This is the new version of the programme.
